Austin Independent School District Board
David Kauffman first taught in Houston ISD after attending Stanford University. He then earned his master’s and doctoral degrees at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education where he studied Learning & Teaching and Administration, Planning & Social Policy. For the next 17 years, he worked in Austin ISD as principal of Becker Elementary and founding principal of L.Cpl. Nicholas S. Perez Elementary, and then as executive director for Multilingual Education. He currently provides consulting and professional learning for educators through Kauffman Education, LLC, and teaches in the Texas Principal Leadership Academy at the University of Texas at Austin as a part-time assistant professor of Practice. He was named the Houston ISD North Central District ESL Teacher of the Year, the Austin ISD Principal of the Year, and the Communities in Schools “Best of Texas” Principal of the Year. He has received the Public Education Award from the Austin Area Association for Bilingual Education.

Arati Singh was elected to the AISD in 2018. She started her career as a bilingual 4th grade teacher in the Rio Grande Valley, and for 20 years has designed and evaluated college access and STEM program for clients such as Texas A&M University and Foundation Communities. She has testified several times at the Texas legislature on behalf of Texas PTA’s members while serving as the PTA president of a Title I school.
Arati has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minor in Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Texas at Austin. Arati and her family live in Oak Hill in southwest Austin.
